Jumps Racing

The unacceptably high risk to the welfare of horses involved in jumps racing makes this sport nothing more than legalised cruelty.

Jumps Racing

Victoria and South Australia are the last two states in Australia to continue running jumps racing events. All other states have either banned or abandoned the sport. Despite numerous reviews into the safety and viability of jumps racing, and subsequent revisions to hurdles to make them safer, the horrific injuries incurred by horses, which often result in death, continue to occur every jumps season.

Horses that compete in jumps races in Victoria are retired or failed flat race horses. Owners and trainers of jumps horses more often than not risk the welfare of their horse to recoup money spent on its early career. This is totally unacceptable and shows a blatant disregard for animal welfare.

The racing industry in Victoria must provide alternatives for retired or failed flat race horses including a comprehensive re-homing strategy.

The needless and inhumane death of countless jumps racing horses has to stop.
