About this site

The aim of Political Animal is to highlight the key animal welfare issues that the RSPCA would like the next parliament, be it Federal or State, to deal with. It's also a gateway for people who share our concerns to help us get these issues on the legislative agenda.

The site is not intended to be material that gives the public information on how to vote in any upcoming Federal, State or Local elections.

In all areas animal welfare should be seen as a continuous cycle of improvement. The RSPCA has been working to improve the welfare of animals in Australia for around 130 years. A critical part of this process is influencing legislative change. The kind of the change that resulted in a national ban on cosmetic tail docking of dogs or more recently in Tasmania, change that resulted in a state-wide commitment to phase out the use of sow stalls in pig farming.

Community standards and expectations influence our decision makers more than the average voter realises. By becoming a Political Animal you are casting your vote for those that have no voice.
